Synopsis
Speedwell is a 3 episode-series created by an entirely student-run team. Funded by Emerson Independent Video, the largest student-run production company, This series strives as one of the most ambitious projects created at Emerson College. The story follows Captain Carmen Grover, a stern captain who has just surfaced from a 6-month-long mission aboard her submarine, the UEV Speedwell. Finding out her new mission is to take a group of refugees known as Esmarlians across an uncharted ocean to she is hesitant until she learns of the new conflicts that have arisen on land since she was last topside. Realizing that this may be the Esmarlians’ last chance at survival, she agrees. This first episode showcases the disdain between the crew members of the submarine and the Esmarlians as they are tightly packed into this rickety submarine. When the Submarine is attacked, the Speedwell Crew and Esmarlians work together as their lives are hanging on the line.
Episode 1 was co-written & co-directed by Jack Reiber and Kathan Reddy who shot this 24-minute pilot across 6 days utilizing the DiBona Production Studio. With a budget of $800, This series is meant to serve as a proof of concept that showcases the world and lore of this original universe. Since the first episode, the show was renewed for two more episodes with Kathan Reddy serving as a Producer to the series. With episode 3, the series comes to a close showcasing what season 1 of this story would have to offer while leaving room open for new adventures within the deepest depths of the oceans.
